A kingdom on the brink of war. A king on the fringes of insanity. A family running for their lives. Ash and Fin's only desire is to be together and dive into their happily ever after, though their conflicting worlds work to pull them apart. Neither is ready to convert to the other's life: become a human or a mer. Little do they know that somewhere in Natatoria a secret holds the fine fabric of everyone's lives together. If the truth is discovered, Ash and Fin will no longer have the luxury of waiting. They'll be forced to choose. But will it be for loyalty or love? Or will someone else make the choice for them if they can't decide? Enter the watery world of treachery, greed, and the binding mer kiss as the story continues with Evergreen, book two of Mer Tales.
Evergreen is the sequel to Everblue which I loved. I love me some Finley.
But his name....Finley?? Really....let's name the hot merman Finley....cause he has a fin cause he is a merman...and to make things worse let's call him Fin.
Anyway... Evergreen takes up where Everblue left off. Ash and Fin have to be separated because Fin's family is on the run from the royal family of Natatoria, Collin, and Alastor (his cousin and uncle). Because the mermaid/merman's kiss is so important in the Meres' world, it has the effect of binding the two that kissed together forever. Fin's kiss to Ash in the first book saved her life but also bound them to each other. They had feelings for each other but the kiss magnified it. They are promised and it makes them being apart very painful.
Throughout the book you watch the struggle of the idiots...I mean hero/heroine as they both struggle to keep secrets from one another. Granted they are secrets to keep the other safe but in the end it makes it worse for one another. Making them both stupid and idiots.
Overall the book was really good but some of the romance is a bit cheesy but I think the author meant it to be that way because of the Mer Kiss amplifying everything. I still highly recommend the Mer Tales series.
I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars
5 out of 5 kisses for Romance
3 out of 5 tridents for Violence
