Born and raised in the Midwest, Jersey Cameron knows all about tornadoes. Or so she thinks. When her town is devastated by a twister, Jersey survives -- but loses her mother, her young sister, and her home. As she struggles to overcome her grief, she's sent to live with her only surviving relatives: first her biological father, then her estranged grandparents.
In an unfamiliar place, Jersey faces a reality she's never considered before -- one in which her mother wasn't perfect, and neither were her grandparents, but they all loved her just the same. Together, they create a new definition of family. And that's something no tornado can touch.

Yes, Yes, I know Madison is possibly reviewing a sad book for once???? Yes this is true. I received this from NetGalley for an honest review. Even though this book made me sad, It made me want to continue reading it. That in itself is very rare for me. I have a tendency that if a book makes me sad, I just stop reading and hide it. I don't like sad books normally.
In this book the author does a good job of keeping the readers attention even though parts of the book were slow.
However I do hate the fact that the author makes you so frustrated with what is happening to Jersey you want to scream. Maybe that's the point??
Jersey goes through the loss of her mom and sister and is later abandoned by her stepfather because he just can't handle losing her mom and sister. Jersey is put in a horrible home situation where they do not care if she gets food, want her to do their housework, and had to sleep on the back porch. And this was from her father's side of the family.
Jersey runs away and gets picked up by her step father and taken to her mom's grandparents. At first she fights them on everything but she soon realizes that they actually love and want to help her.
Overall I enjoyed this book and would read another book by Jennifer Brown.
